I’ve gotten several questions along these lines, on varying scales of genuine curiosity, rudeness, and accusing me of being the reason feminism exists (what). So I thought I’d just quickly summarize my thoughts on new Vocaloids, and why I’m so adamant about there being innovation when new voices are released.
First, you’ll notice that I didn’t say “I want more male Vocaloids.” That’s because I’m personally not focused on simply getting more guys - I want there to be a REASON for each new Vocaloid that comes out. Every time a Vocaloid company releases a voicebank, they are releasing a product - thus, they should give me reason to buy their product.
This means that if a product like theirs exists already, why should I buy it? If I want a cute female voice, I have TONS to choose from. If I want a soft English voice, I’ve got plenty. That’s why I want to see INNOVATION - something that hasn’t been done before. This could come in any form. A male Chinese Vocaloid. A screamo Vocaloid. A German Vocaloid. Something, anything, that gives me reason to want to buy, or listen to, this new Vocaloid.
It’s a good problem to have that the Vocaloid market is becoming somewhat oversaturated - producers and listeners have tons of voices to choose from. But this also means that, more and more, Vocaloid customers and listeners have TOO MUCH to pay attention to. I know that I am probably not the average Vocaloid listener/user, but to me, personally, innovation is what makes the world go around.
So no, this isn’t me being sexist (what), or me wanting male Vocaloids to lust over (I’m not even into dudes wtf guys) - I want to see more innovation, because I think Vocaloid has reached a saturation point where, when there’s plenty of one type of voice to choose from, I think the most important thing a Vocaloid company could do is bring something NEW to the table.
